November 2021 Donation Parters: Taking Ownership PDX & Rose Haven

November donation partners

Every month, Do Good mortgage makes donations to local non-profits when our clients’ transactions close or we receive a referral from our community of Do-Gooders. For those who don’t have a favorite local nonprofit, we give on their behalf to our donation partner of the month.

Taking Ownership PDX

Taking Ownership PDX is a community collective of contractors, realtors, neighbors, and businesses, brought together by Randal Wyatt, enabling black homeowners to age in place, generate wealth, and deter predatory investors and realtors and stop the gentrification process. They do that by raising funds and awareness and working with a team of passionate activists and volunteers who hit the streets and make a significant difference in the lives of our black neighbors.

Here’s how you can get involved and offer support:

  • Donate money or materials
  • Volunteer

Rose Haven

Rose Haven is the only day shelter and community center in Portland specifically serving women, children, and gender-diverse people.

Before the pandemic, the organization offered day shelter in the basement of a local church. Guests were able to rest, eat, and participate in various activities in a safe, respectful environment.

The pandemic changed everything. Guests and staff alike were unable to gather inside the shelter safely. The organization reduced the number of active volunteers from 895 to a mere handful. Most importantly, Rose Haven had to pivot from its day shelter model to an at-the-door model through the pandemic.

The focus is no longer wellness and empowerment—it’s survival. Current services include:

  • At-the-door support including nutritious food, water, emergency clothing, diapers, wipes, hygiene products, rain gear, mail service, pet food, and other needed items
  • Showers, bathrooms, and handwashing sink usage inside
  • Outdoor supplies including tents, tarps, sleeping bags
  • Additional direct service allocations for medical, rental, and utility emergencies
  • Advocacy and Emotional support for those feeling anxious during this uncertain time

If you’d like to learn more about Rose Haven, visit the website. And if you’d like to help, you can donate supplies or shop its wishlist on Amazon.
