Urban Gleaners is all about reducing waste and eliminating hunger. Founder Tracy Oseran discovered that hunger is not necessarily an issue of access, it is an issue of distribution. Fresh, unsold food made from the region’s best ingredients is now rescued by this volunteer-powered organization and redistributed through school pantries, summer free farmers markets, and Mobile Markets at low-income housing communities. Here are some highlights of what Urban Gleaners does:
- Collects and redistributes over 60,000 pounds of food every month
- Feeds over 4,000 people every week
- Delivers food to 25 school pantries, 15 mobile markets, and 18 summer markets
Here’s how you can get involved and make our community healthier:
- Give food
- Give money
- Volunteer: repacking/sorting, pickup routes, rapid response team
